What the installer will check
An installer checks your electricity supply and other electrical loads, earthing, consumer unit, cable route and parking position before recommending an EV charger. An older fuseboard does not automatically need replacing: its condition and available protection need to be assessed.
The assessment should consider the charger’s position, cable length, safe access and whether load management or supply alterations are needed. Your installer should explain any electricity network operator application or notification requirements and whether approval is needed before installation.
Photos help with an initial quote, but some jobs need a site visit and testing. The written quotation should state what is included, any additional works and the testing and certification you will receive.
