The starting price covers a Project EV APEX charger supplied and fitted in the basic layout shown in our photo: wall mounted beside an existing meter cupboard, with a short, accessible surface cable route. It includes the mounting, cabling and dedicated circuit protection for that layout, plus charger setup, testing and electrical certification.

The existing supply and earthing must be suitable. The site visit determines whether your property qualifies for the starting price, and your written quote confirms the exact model, cable route and full scope. Electrical upgrades, longer or concealed routes and groundwork are quoted separately.

The £850 starting price applies only to a straightforward installation like the example shown, where the existing electrical supply and earthing are suitable.

A different charger position, a longer cable run, concealed cabling, trenching, a mounting post, fuseboard changes, earthing or bonding upgrades, supply alterations or additional equipment can increase the cost.

If the site visit identifies work outside the basic installation, we will provide a revised written quotation for you to agree before installation. The final price depends on the work your property needs.

OZEV stands for the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles. The Project EV APEX-7S and the other APEX models on the official GOV.UK list are eligible chargepoint models for residential and commercial OZEV grants. Your written quotation will confirm the exact model supplied.

An eligible charger does not automatically mean you qualify for funding. The applicant, property, installation and installer must also meet the relevant scheme requirements. Check the current GOV.UK grant guidance before relying on a grant. Any grant eligibility or deduction must be confirmed separately.

Project EV lists the APEX-7S socketed home charger at up to 7.3kW on a single-phase supply. Actual charging power and charging time depend on your electricity supply, the installation settings and what your vehicle can accept.

The APEX range also includes 22kW models for a suitable three-phase supply. We will assess your property and confirm the appropriate charger in your written quote. A higher-rated charger will not make a vehicle charge faster than its own AC charging limit.

The example in our photo is a socketed, or untethered, charger. You plug a separate compatible Type 2 charging cable into the unit and your vehicle. A tethered model has its vehicle charging cable permanently attached.

We will confirm the charger version and any accessories included in your written quotation. If you prefer a tethered model or need a separate vehicle charging cable, please tell us when requesting your quote.

EV charging is a continuous high load, not a short burst like a kettle. That changes what the installation has to do.

It needs its own dedicated circuit, not a spur taken off something existing.

It needs specific fault protection under Section 722 of the wiring regulations, which covers electric vehicle charging installations.

Your earthing arrangement has to be assessed. Some supply types require additional protection before an outdoor charger can be fitted at all, and this is the single most common reason an installation is not as simple as it first looks.

All new smart chargers must comply with the Smart Charge Point Regulations.

Get any of that wrong and you have a fire risk on a circuit that runs for eight hours a night, plus an installation that will be flagged the next time the property is inspected.
